Temple of Artemis
The Temple of Artemis (Temple of Diana) was rebuilt 3 times between approximately 800 -323 BC and is now considered one of the The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The temple, originally dedicated to the goddess Artemis, stands today with only column foundations and one column, reconstructed from miss-matched pieces, remaining.
The third re-construction (323 BC) was the largest with at least 127 columns standing 60' tall and was approximately 450' l x225' w.
Located behind the Temple is the Isa Bey Mosque - 1374-1375 sitting below The Byzantine Citadel of Ayasuluk - 527-565 AD (l) and The Basilica of St. John - 6th century (r).
